The Kids Triathlon started out as a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh but has become so much more than that over the past 13 years. While it remains Habitat’ s major fundraising effort to raise money to build houses for people in need of affordable, decent housing, it also gives kids a fun and energyburning activity in the summertime! Many visitors also bring their own telescopes to take advantage of viewing conditions at the site. Others use the occasion simply to view the stars and planets with their own eyes. The tour will feature diverse Mt. Lebanon gardens during this selfguided tour. Expert and amateur gardeners alike will find inspiration and garden beauty. Good quality perennials will be on sale during tour hours at the library( all plant specimens are donated from local gardens, appropriate for growing conditions in western Pennsylvania and offered at discount prices), and there will be free consultations with Penn State Master Gardeners and a Pittsburgh Rose Society Consulting Rosarian, as well as special promotional offers at The Book Cellar used book shop on the library’ s lower level.
