New Obstetrics Unit to open this fall at Jefferson Hospital
Anyone having a baby later this year or thinking about starting
a family in the future will want to know more about Jefferson
Hospital’s state-of-the-art obstetrics unit, currently under
construction and scheduled to open this fall on the hospital’s
Jefferson Hills campus.
Jefferson’s 2012-2013 Community Health Needs Assessment — a
comprehensive review and analysis of the health issues and needs
of residents of the hospital’s service region — identified access to
pre- and post-natal care and obstetrical care in the community as
a crucial need.
“We’re honored to have the new obstetrics unit at Jefferson,” said
David Logan, MD, obstetrician/gynecologist and director of the
obstetrics program at Jefferson. “We have never had obstetrics
services at this hospital in the more than 30 years that it has served
families in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, so we are very excited
about this new program.”
Allan Klapper, MD, chairman of obstetrics and gynecology
for the Allegheny Health Network (AHN), said the new Jefferson
obstetrics unit reflects AHN’s goal to provide the highest quality of
care in the community.
Jefferson’s new obstetrics unit is located on the hospital’s 4th floor
and will include 8 LPRP (labor, delivery, recovery, post-partum)
suites. This unique room concept will enable mothers to remain
in one area throughout each step of the birth experience. Other
features include:
• A Level II nursery for special needs
• Two dedicated cesarean-secti ۈ
