various aspects of myth, including Myth Across Cultures: Joseph
Campbell, The Hero With a Thousand Faces; Myth of North America:
Richard Erdoes & Alfonso Ortiz, Native American Myths; Myth as
American Novel: William Faulkner, The Bear; Andrew Krivak, The
Bear; and Myth in the Key of Life: Bruce Chatwin, Songlines.

Mason Heberling, curator at the Carnegie Museum of Natural
History, will discuss how trees and understory wildflowers
respond differently to warmer springs under climate change,
with negative impact to wildflowers as well as the impact of
invasives. Presented in partnership with the Mt. Lebanon Nature
Conservancy.
MINIATURES WITH JIM ALLAN

Jim Allan is a local artist who builds miniature structures of many
locations and building types. Come and learn his creative process,
see the tools and supplies he uses, and the exquisite detail of his
pieces.
BOTANICAL ILLUSTRATION
12:30 p.m., Wednesdays in June
Artist Melissa Fabian will lead you through a series of four classes
about the history of traditional and contemporary botanical
illustration. Students will have an opportunity to try the various
mediums and techniques used by botanical artists. Registration is
required.
WORLDWIDE KNIT IN PUBLIC DAY
10 a.m., Saturday, June 13
Calling all needleworkers or anyone who wants to learn or
observe. Join Mt. Lebanon Public Library’s Knitting and Crochet
Group in our courtyard as we celebrate World Wide Knit in Public
Day. Drop in at any time during the event. Needles and yarn will
be available if you’d like to give it a try. Rain or shine.

Fiber Arts Guild of Pittsburgh member Kitty Spangler teaches this
class on three-dimensional dioramas in book form by cutting,
gluing, folding, and playing with pictures, colors, and shapes. No
special skills needed; materials provided. For adults. Registration

PFC LECTURE SERIES FILM: ‘PLASTIC PARADISE – THE GREAT
PACIFIC GARBAGE PATCH’

Dee and Walt Kochirka of the Izaak Walton League will screen
“Plastic Paradise,” which describes alternatives to plastic in our
lives, and looks at the effects of fracking and the new cracker plant
on our region. Sponsored by Pittsburgh Freethought Community.
MEHNDI
7 p.m., Monday, June 29
Mehndi, the ancient tradition of art with henna, uses a paste made
from the powdered dry leaves of the henna plant to decorate
hair, nails, and skin. Soma Chatteriji, a tradtional henna artist, will
teach the process and cultural significance of mehndi. Participants
will get their own freehand pattern from Soma. For adults.

Local author Judy Press and Samantha Smith from the Mt.
Lebanon Children’s Writers Group will share their expertise in

books for children and Sam is a freelance commercial writer and
children’s book author.
