THE LAST TABOO: DYING IN AMERICA
7 pm, Thursdays, June 13, 20 and Wednesday, July 3
Barbara Ivanko, president of Family Hospice in Mt. Lebanon,
will discuss the attitudes about the end of life in the US from
the 1800s till today, questions people are afraid to ask, and
the resources available for families facing this difficult time in
this 3-part series.

Jack Hersh will discuss his new non-fiction book about his
father, Death March Escpape: The Remarkable Story of a Man
Who Twice Escaped the Nazi Holocaust.

“Pete” Peterson grew up in the working-class South Side,
a community defined by its Eastern European enclaves. He’ll
discuss Pirates players from the 1950s and 1960s, including
Frank Thomas, Richie Zisk, Bill Mazeroski, and Stan Musial
(who loved to talk about the Polish food he ate as a child).
These men gave Pittsburgh’s ethnic groups a sense of pride in
their culture and that goes far beyond pierogi races.
BEAUTY AND THE BEASTS: WILDFLOWERS
AND INVASIVES

Speaker Mason Heberling is curator of botany at Carnegie
Museum of Natural History.

WORLDWIDE KNIT IN PUBLIC DAY
10 a.m.–1 p.m., Saturday, June 8
Calling all needleworkers or anyone who wants to learn
or observe. Join Mt. Lebanon Public Library’s Knitting and
Crochet Group in the library courtyard (inside if it rains) as we
celebrate Worldwide Knit in Public Day. Drop in at any time
during the event. Needles and yarn will be available if you’d
like to give it a try.
ROSE EXPOSITION
11 a.m.–3 p.m. Saturday, June 15
An exhibit of hundreds of roses from Pittsburgh Rose Society
members’ gardens. All types of roses will be exhibited—
shrubs, groundcovers, climbers, hybrid teas, floribundas,
grandifloras, old garden roses, miniatures and minifloras.
Rose growing experts will be there to answer your questions
and help you make sense of the vast variety of color, growth
habit, and bloom features offered by the rose family of
perennials. This is an excellent way to learn how today’s roses
can be used in any garden design.

Sewing Studio teach this two-part class. All materials,
