Walk from station to station to hear some fun and fantastical tales . Costumes are welcome . ( In case of bad weather , this event will move inside to the children ’ s library .) Spooky Storytelling 4 p . m ., Wednesday , Oct . 30 With a repertoire of hundreds of stories from around the globe , storyteller Alan Irvine returns to the library for a spooky reading just in time for Halloween ! For adults .

Noir-vember A mini noir film festival runs for three weeks in November . Each screening starts at 6:30 p . m .
• Monday , Nov . 11 : Pickup on South Street ( 1953 ), directed by Samuel Fuller and starring Richard Widmark , Jean Peters , and Thelma Ritter .
• Monday , Nov . 18 : The Killing ( 1956 ), directed by a 28-year-old Stanley Kubrick and starring Sterling Hayden , Coleen Gray , and Vince Edwards , is a noir with a heist .
• Monday , Nov . 25 : The Maltese Falcon ( 1941 ), directed by John Huston ( in his directorial debut ), stars Humphrey Bogart , Mary Astor , Gladys George , Peter Lorre , and Sydney Greenstreet .

• A bonus noir film ( considered “ noir-adjacent ”) will be screened at 6:30 p . m ., Wednesday , Nov . 20 , as part of the library ’ s “ What ’ s So Great About ” series . Sunset Boulevard ( 1950 ) is director Billy Wilder ’ s classic about an aging silent movie queen , played by Gloria Swanson , who refuses to realize her stardom has come to an end when a downon-his-luck screenwriter ( William Holden ) collides into her life . In the series , art historian Elaine Wertheim screens classic films , stopping along the way to point out why they are considered so significant .
Historical Society of Mount Lebanon 7 p . m ., Tuesday , Nov . 12 The historical society presents “ Voices from the Attic ” with retired teacher Carleton Young who , after finding hundreds of letters written during the Civil War by two brothers , spent more than a decade visiting battlefields and researching the young men who were members of the celebrated Vermont Brigade . Using excerpts from their letters , which are filled with in-depth accounts of battles and Army life , he wrote the book Voices from the Attic , which offers details about the soldiers ’ experiences .
Beauty , Hope and Intrigue : The 1893 World ’ s Columbian Exposition 10 a . m ., Monday , Nov . 18 The Frick Pittsburgh Museums & Gardens presents this program . If you ’ ve ever wanted to know what Ragtime , the Ferris Wheel , and George Westinghouse have in common , stop by for this fascinating program about the grandest fair in the world . Travel back to the Gilded Age and the World ’ s Columbian Exposition in Chicago . Learn what made the fair so significant , how it forever altered the nation , and its many surprising ties to Pittsburgh .

Lebanon Genealogy Society 1 p . m ., Monday , Nov . 18 The genealogy society presents professional genealogist Diane Klinefelter for “ From the American Revolution to WWI , Using Military Records for Genealogical Research .” Military records can provide valuable information on veterans , as well as members of the family . Learn how to identify periods of conflict , what ancestors served , the availability of military and veteran benefits , and the location of available records .
Family Sing-Along 11 a . m ., Friday , Nov . 29 Join music teacher Margaret Hooton and her brother , Bob Barnett , for a fun and interactive after-Thanksgiving sing-along . Musical fun for the whole family !
