Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School( OLSH) is an independent Catholic school celebrating over 90 years of success and service to the Pittsburgh region. Founded and sponsored by the Felician Sisters of North America, the school is guided by its mission to ensure students are known as unique and talented individuals, transformed into the best versions of themselves, and inspired by the Catholic faith and Felician Franciscan values. The community is most commonly described as a“ family,” and beyond academics and activities, OLSH hosts social, service, faith, and educational events for students, parents, and the greater community, including hosting a variety of summer camp experiences.
At the heart of the school’ s mission are the Felician core values: Solidarity with People in Need, Compassion, Respect for Human Dignity, Transformation, and Justice & Peace. These values provide the foundation for forming Christian leaders who are active models of service and stewardship.
Students have numerous opportunities to grow in their faith, including weekly Mass, Confession and Adoration, group and individual prayer, retreats, and electing to devote a portion of their lunch period to“ Lunch with the Lord” in the chapel.
In addition to its foundation in faith, OLSH places a strong emphasis on academic rigor and preparation. Students may enroll in general College Preparatory courses, Honors courses, College in High School or Advanced Placement( AP ®) courses, or a combination of the four. OLSH maintains an impressive AP exam pass rate of 88 %, significantly higher than the national average. The school’ s distinct partnership with the University of Notre Dame’ s AP Teacher Investment Program has helped to make AP courses more accessible to all students, while providing extra resources for teachers.
Academic assistance is available through the OLSH Writing & Learning Center for peer and faculty tutoring, and the Advanced Learning & Leadership Initiative provides remediation for learning gaps.
OLSH began the 2025-2026 school year with a new principal, Dave Thomas. Mr. Thomas brings
nearly 20 years of experience as a teacher, coach and school leader.“ I am eager to foster a collaborative and supportive environment where teachers, students and families work in partnership to help every student grow academically, socially and spiritually,” he shared. He believes that shared leadership, open communication, and a focus on relationships are essential to building a thriving school community.
Outside of the classroom, 90 % of students are involved in at least one sport or time-intensive activity, with many involved in multiple endeavors. There is truly something for everyone at OLSH, with 22 sports, 21 visual and performing arts courses, and 48 + clubs and activities— including an award-winning theater program that produces four fullscale shows each school year.
The school’ s 75-acre campus has modern facilities, including the Angela Activities Center, which was outfitted with a new floor and bleachers in 2025. Technology support is comprehensive, featuring a 1:1 Chromebook program, classrooms equipped with smart projectors and Apple TVs, a fully functional TV studio, and additional resources like 3D printers, Promethean boards, and iPad carts.
An important part of the mission is making sure that the opportunity for an OLSH education is accessible to all families. The school awarded $ 1,828,357 in merit and need-based scholarships and financial aid in 2025-2026 to 71 % of the student body. A robust tuition assistance program is made possible by generous donors who support the school’ s endowed scholarships, PA tax credit programs, and an annual fund.
