ONE-OF-A-KIND CAR DONATION PROGRAM Community Auto, a program of The Lighthouse Foundation, is a nonprofit program that accepts donated cars, repairs and inspects them when feasible, and sells them at discounted prices to low-income working families and individuals. The used car in your garage that you don’t have time to sell, or didn’t get the trade-in value you wanted, or a car the kids used but no longer need would be the perfect car to donate. Your generous donation is tax-deductible. Please contact Community Auto at communityautolico.org or 724.538.5081 for details on how to donate your car. FEDEX DONATES $50,000 TO AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY Every day thousands of cancer patients need a ride to a treatment appointment, but some may not have a way to get there. Thanks in part to a new $50,000 grant from FedEx Ground, the American Cancer Society is making sure no ride need will go unmet. The American Cancer Society’s Road To Recovery program provides transportation to and from treatment for people with cancer who do not have a ride or are unable to drive themselves. Varying circumstances, including a shortage of volunteer drivers, has impacted the program’s success in southwestern Pennsylvania. As part of an already-in-place collaboration between the ACS and zTrip, the FedEx Ground grant will ensure the zTrip partnership will continue, providing over 1,200 additional rides for patients to treatment. “Thanks to this grant, anyone who needs a ride can get one for free,” said American Cancer Society Community Development Director Chelsea Edwards. “Between our volunteer drivers as part of Road To Recovery, and the generous donation by FedEx for cab rides, this should ensure no unmet rides in the Greater Pittsburgh region.” A check presentation took place on Monday, Sept. 24, at the American Cancer Society’s Pittsburgh office.
