MAHS STUDENTS
PARTICIPATE IN
ENVIRONMENTAL
SUMMER CAMP, PLAN
TO IMPROVE CAMPUS
Six students in grades 9-11 participated
in the Healthy Planet, Healthy People:
Environmental Summer Camp held at
Slippery Rock University this summer.
Eliana Bonomo, Cody Jones, Alena
Roberts, Christopher Skwortz, Nathan
Thompson, and Morgan Units spent
four days learning about sustainability,
restoring healthy waterways, and saving
our diminishing pollinators. Moon Area
High School students worked, learned,
and collaborated with students from
across the Commonwealth.
Students were tasked with a challenge
to take what they learned at the camp and
apply it in their hometown. Moon Area
High School biology teacher Michelle
Paige served as project leader of the task
group and developed a sustainability
project for the school.
The group developed a plan to build
an outdoor classroom on the Moon Area
campus. With this plan, students hope to
reestablish and protect pollinators such as
bees, hummingbirds, bats and butterflies.
