Michael and Patricia ( Fleck ) Kavic are second-generation Americans , with their families originating in Serbia and Italy . Their ancestors brought with them the art of winemaking , but also the joy of sharing it with family and friends , which sustained them during the hard times of the Great Depression . The Kavics have continued the tradition , making wine at home for years before deciding to go public with their production , establishing Michael Steven Kavic Winery . It uses only locally grown grapes and has a nearby vineyard . You can taste the fruits of their efforts at the urban winery , offering about 15 reds and whites , and a rosé called Deep Valley Blush . Residents west of Pittsburgh are discovering this quaint familyowned vineyard established in 2008 . In addition to the lovely location in the rolling hills of eastern Ohio , Black Sheep offers live entertainment and food trucks on many Saturday nights , a selection of cheese and cracker menu items , and fun activities and events . NARCISI WINERY , Gibsonia This family-owned and operated winery has its roots in 1911 when brothers Raphael , Giovanni and Gabriele Narcisi immigrated to America from Guilianova , Italy . They brought their knowledge of winemaking with them — a tradition that has continued with their descendants .
A true destination , Narcisi Winery has a restaurant , offers tours and has private tastings and events . It continues to innovate with its winemaking process , offering a Chardonnay that is very crisp , while retaining the traditional buttery finish , and a dry red and blush wine blend called Granato that has a smooth finish and easy drinkability . LONG RUN WINERY , Slippery Rock After making their own wines for years , this couple decided to go public with their winemaking skills in 2017 .
They purchased 13 acres and planted their vineyard in Slippery Rock . Its name derives from a small stream north of the property called Long Run , but also from one owner ’ s love of the sport of running . The winery ’ s collection is in line with that theme — Endurance , Marathon , Night Run , Easy Run , Pace and Relay , to name a few .
