Christopher Martin, Southwest Region President, Northwest Savings Bank “I do not feel that I do anything special. I just live my life in a style that any person should. Going to the blood bank is just a small thing. I can help other people in need without any real effort. Murphy is a key participant in the Central Blood Bank Scholarship Drive, benefitting Cornell High School’s senior class. During 2013, she donated blood 15 times, and has been an active donor for more than 20 years, long before Cornell’s association with the scholarship fund. Murphy also serves as chairperson of the Cornell School District Parent-Teacher Council fundraisers and has participated in the elementary school’s Santa Shop for 27 years. Her leadership with these fundraising efforts has resulted in annual field trips for all students, guest speakers, assembly programs, school supplies and equipment. It also should be noted that Murphy has chaperoned more school events than any other parent. Although her children and foster children graduated many years ago, she always is willing to assist where she is needed. She also is an active volunteer for her church, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where ” she has served as treasurer for the Christian Mothers Association for the past six years. She also volunteered as treasurer of the Catholic Daughters for four years and is currently serving as the group’s president. Murphy tirelessly gives of her time within her community as well. She attends Boro Council meetings regularly and even ran for mayor. She visits senior citizens in the community and often assists them with tasks such as mending clothes and ironing. “I was surprised and honored to receive this award,” Murphy said. “Donna (Belas) said that she had submitted my name for the Community Awards for Service Excellence, but I do not feel that I do anything special. I just live my life in a style that any person should. Going to the blood bank is just a small thing. I can help other people in need without any real effort.” ■ President of the Southwest Region of Northwest, Mr. Martin is responsible for the growth and profitability of the bank in southwestern Pennsylvania. In addition to 29 community banking offices in Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler and Washington counties, Mr. Martin coordinates all business development efforts in his region through Northwest business lines and personnel. His goal is to increase awareness of the comprehensive line of products and services offered by the bank, including retail banking, mortgage lending, commercial lending, insurance services, business services and investment management and trust. Mr. Martin and his team are committed to the success of the people, businesses and communities in southwestern Pennsylvania. Together, they strive to improve Northwest’s community awareness and involvement, customer satisfaction and loyalty, employee engagement and development, profitability and shareholder return. Mr. Martin joined Northwest in 2006, bringing 16 years of sales, banking and lending experience. Prior to his appointment as Southwest Region president, Mr. Martin served as senior vice president of Sales and Customer Service for NexTier Bank. Mr. Martin received his bachelor’s degree in economics with a minor in Spanish from Westminster College. He is a graduate of the Graduate School of Executive Bank Management at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., and the Pennsylvania Bankers Association (PBA) Commercial Lending School at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa. Mr. Martin currently serves as chairman of PBA’s Group 8. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for the trade association of the PBA, and the finance chair of the Butler County Family YMCA. Mr. Martin also serves in an advisory capacity to several local nonprofit organizations. Active in his hometown, Cranberry Township, Mr. Martin volunteers his time to his passion of developing and instilling integrity, respect, sportsmanship, fair play, honor, work ethic, responsibility and teamwork to local youth. To deliver this message, Mr. Martin serves as an assistant coach for youth baseball, youth soccer, youth softball and youth basketball.
