WHAT’ S NEWS IN MOON TOWNSHIP
MOON TOWNSHIP POLICE ARE OUT ON THE TRAIL
The section of the Montour Trail that is within Moon Township is now being patrolled by township police officers on mountain bikes. Their presence is to help ensure the safety and security of area residents and trail users.
Besides reducing response times for occasional emergencies on limited-access parts of the trail, it also allows the local police a chance to have more interaction with residents. If you see them on the trail, be sure to say hello— and thanks!
SPRING GARDENING NEWS
Spring is coming, and so are lots of wonderful events with the Moon Township Garden Club to welcome the warmer weather.
The club is over 100 years old, with its establishment in 1921. Members have always sought to stimulate a love of gardening, to aid in the protection of native plants and to engage in civic projects to beautify the community. One of these projects includes the lovely Fleur de Lune Garden at Robin Hill Park.
The Garden Club sponsors an annual Plant Giveaway & Exchange, usually held in May, and a Garden Club Tour where members open up their gardens for a little inspiration. Moon Township Garden Club also offers an annual scholarship to one lucky student who is majoring in botany, horticulture or environmentalism.
You don’ t have to have a massive outdoor space to enjoy gardening, you just have to have a heart for growing things— especially native plants.

EVERYTHING SCOTTISH!
Many area residents have Scottish roots that run deep. You can celebrate your heritage at the Pittsburgh Tartan Day event on Saturday, April 11, at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Bethel Park.
It is sponsored by the St. Andrew’ s Society of Pittsburgh, and this year will also celebrate the signing of the U. S. Declaration of Independence. It is the 250th anniversary of our country’ s founding, and also the 250th anniversary of Bethel Presbyterian Church!
The fun begins at 10 a. m. and continues until 4:30 p. m., with free admission and parking. There will be many vendors selling Scottish memorabilia, information on the clans of Scotland, workshops, great food, raffles, and entertainment— including, of course, bagpipers!
Proceeds from the event benefit the St. Andrew’ s Society Scholarship Fund. For more information, visit standrewspittsburgh. org.
