The Pro Football Hall of Fame , which opened in 1963 , is certainly a big draw for this city of 70,000 , where the NFL was founded . More than just bronzed heads of the game ’ s greats , there are interactive exhibits , events and tons of historical artifacts from the league ’ s early days to be seen here .
There is also the official First Ladies National Library & Museum . Every U . S . President has a national library dedicated to their presidency . The first ladies are all commemorated in one location in Canton , with costumed docents and presentations in a theater , artifacts of the first ladies , and attire worn at historymaking events . “ Jackie O ” is featured until April 20 in “ Beyond Camelot .”
The museum is housed in the historic home of Ida Saxton McKinley , wife of President William McKinley who served until his assassination in 1901 . McKinley ’ s Presidential Library is also located in Canton .
The Canton Museum of Art is widely acclaimed for its watercolor and ceramics exhibits . Founded in 1935 , the museum has constantly added to its collections . The current featured exhibits , which will run until March 3 , include “ The Best of Contemporary Quilts ,” which are not your grandmother ’ s quilt ! It also

PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME The Founders , artist Dirk Rozich is featuring “ Without a Net ,” the three-dimensional circus art of Susan Else , which is both whimsical and mysterious .
If you love vintage cars , the Canton Classic Car Museum should get your motor running . The collection includes a 1937 Studebaker President , bullet-proof police car , and a 1937 Packard hearse , complete with mahogany side panels . Although featuring autos dating from 1901 , the museum offers more than just cars . Stark County is known as “ The Gateway to Amish Country ” if you ’ d like to take a little time relaxing in the country . Another great local find is the Palace Theatre of Canton . This historic theater retains much of its 1920s charm , but it ’ s not a museum . You can actually take in a recently released movie in the opulent surroundings .
