I t’s been 14 years since the Moon Golf Club reopened as a municipal public course, but even some people living in Moon aren’t aware of that fact. “We’ve been around for a long time, but it was the old Bon Air golf course for about 70 years before that,” said Josh DeNinno, General Manager. “A lot has changed. There’s been tremendous improvement in our facility. Every year, we’re making upgrades and improvements to the club. This year, we just got brand-new golf carts and made improvements to cart paths. But, unless you’re a regular, you just don’t know how much has been done. Everything we make is put right back into the facility.” The Moon Golf Club is open to everyone, residents and non- residents, although residents benefit from discounted rates. The course is open year-round as long as the course is playable, and annual passes with or without carts are available. DeNinno said that despite the course being somewhat hilly, there are still die- hard players who choose to walk the 18 holes no matter what the weather is doing. Booking tee times is recommended, but walk-ins may be available during slower play times, and players can see what time slots are available on the club’s website: moongolfclub.com. DeNinno adds that the course is “approachable” and challenges beginners as well as veteran golf players. It serves as the host site for two high school golf teams and as a tryout and practice site for a number of other teams as well. In addition to a pro shop stocked full of apparel and equipment, the Moon Golf Club also has a restaurant and bar on-site where players can get a meal before or after a round. DeNinno notes that the restaurant is a great place to start for people who just want to see how great the course has become in the past few years. “People will be surprised, even if they were here just a few years ago,” he said. “We hear remarks all the time about how great the conditions are here—that it’s better than ever before.” The Moon Golf Club also is host to numerous charity outings and leagues every year. With over 50 leagues playing every week, Monday through Friday, players of every ability will be able to find a group to their liking. “We’re especially popular for leagues and charity outings because of our location,” DeNinno said. “We have three office parks really close to us, 15 hotels and an international airport nearby. Players can be here within five or 10 minutes. And, even with all that around you, you still have this place that feels away from it all, with some of the best public greens in the region.” For more information on the Moon Golf Club, including rates, available tee times, restaurant menu and hours, proshop online store and special discounts, go to the website at moongolfclub.com.
