Dealing with difficult issues helped Brooke Lawrence
begin a new and positive writing and teaching career.

oon Township’s Brooke Lawrence
wants to follow her dreams to
become a writer after graduating
Summa Cum Laude from the University of
Pittsburgh at Greensburg in April. Armed
with some of her published poetry in a
chapbook on Amazon, she is ready to go to
work.
“Everyone always says English majors will
end up teaching because making a living as

a writer can be difficult,” says Lawrence. “I
never imagined myself as a teacher, but when
the opportunity presented itself, I gave it a
try.”
She found an open position for The
Institute of Reading Development. “They
were looking to hire summer teachers for
basic reading and writing skills to more
advanced reading comprehension and
writing,” explains Lawrence. “I was hoping to
