RED CROSS CALLS FOR VOLUNTEERS
The American Red Cross of Greater Pennsylvania issued an urgent call for volunteers as disaster response demands continue to grow.
With volunteers making up 90 % of its workforce, the organization is seeking help to respond to both local emergencies( like home fires) and large-scale disasters such as hurricanes and wildfires.
Key opportunities include serving on Disaster Action Teams to support families after local emergencies, working in local shelters, or traveling nationwide to assist after major disasters.

REGISTRATION OPENS FOR 2025 YMCA TURKEY TROT
A beloved Thanksgiving tradition is back! Registration is open for the 2025 YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh Turkey Trot, presented by UPMC Health Plan.
More than 8,000 participants are expected on Thursday, Nov. 27, for the 5-mile run, 5K and 1-mile fun run— all benefiting YMCA food pantry programs and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
Since 2020, the YMCA has distributed more than 120 tons of food to local neighborhoods, and proceeds from the race continue to support these vital efforts.
Participants will receive a longsleeve hooded shirt, with options for a commemorative medal or the“ Double Gobble” challenge for those running both the 5-mile and 5K.
With a virtual option, discounted youth registration and a festive atmosphere, the Turkey Trot has been a meaningful way for families and friends to kick off Thanksgiving while giving back to the community. n
