2024 PITTSBURGH VETERANS DAY PARADE ON MONDAY , NOV . 11
Show your appreciation and support to the brave men and women , past and present , who have honorably served our nation at one of the longest-running Veterans Day parades in the country .
You ’ ll see vets from all wars , military vehicles , a military jet flyover , high school bands , horses , service dogs and so much more . Last year , 119 units participated . The parade starts at 10:30 a . m . and runs along Liberty Avenue in Downtown Pittsburgh .
NEW OFFERINGS AT KENNYWOOD ’ S HOLIDAY LIGHTS THIS YEAR !
Kennywood is updating Holiday Lights this season , marking the largest expansion in the event ’ s history . The highlight is a new immersive experience featuring characters from the classic TV special , “ Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer ,” including Rudolph , Bumble , Clarice and Sam the Snowman .
The event , which transforms the park into a winter wonderland , will begin Nov . 15 .
General Manager Rick Spicuzza said that this year ’ s expansion includes the park ’ s largest investment in the event in 13 years , promising new entertainment , a synchronized light show set to holiday music , new festive decorations and extended dates for visitors to enjoy .
AUBERLE ’ S 20TH ANNUAL ‘ VOICES CARRY ’ EVENT
On Sept . 24 , Pittsburgh musicians gathered to celebrate 20 years of supporting Auberle through the Voices Carry event .
Held at The Westin Pittsburgh Convention Center , the evening featured performances from some of the city ’ s most popular artists , including Scott Blasey , Billy Price , Joe Grushecky and more , some of whom have participated since the event ’ s inception . They performed hits from Motown and the ‘ 60s to mark the special anniversary .
In addition to live music , attendees enjoyed a basket raffle , silent auction and a live auction featuring a private performance by Scott Blasey .
Proceeds from the event support Auberle ’ s extensive programs , which help change the lives of more than 5,000 individuals , families , and communities each year through services like workforce development , housing and behavioral health support .
KEYNOTES MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION 2025
Keynotes is accepting applications for its 2025 music scholarship competition , which will be held May 10 , 2025 , at the Fine Arts Theatre of Mt . Lebanon High School in the South Hills . Cash awards totaling more than $ 16,000 will be available . Requirements are :
• Instrumentalists must be under 26 years of age by June 1 , 2025 , and vocalists must be under the age of 30 .
• The student must be a full-time music major at a college , university or music school or a graduating high school senior accepted for admission as a full-time music major .
• Contestants must be current legal residents of Pennsylvania for one year , or if out of state , attending a school in PA and can provide proof of Pennsylvania address ( e . g ., campus address , university mailings , apartment or utility bills ). AWARD-WINNING SCREENWRITER FROM MONROEVILLE RELEASES DEBUT NOVEL
Award-winning screenwriter Don Ammon has released his debut novel , “ Toxic High .” The book , published by Starlit Waters Publishing , delves into the dark complexities of high school life , exploring themes of sexual identity , jealousy , revenge , and murder .
Inspired by a 2017 Elvis Costello concert , Ammon adapted the story from a screenplay he had written . The novel has received glowing reviews , including comparisons to works by Brett Easton Ellis and Irvine Welsh , and was a hit upon release . n
