This year is the symphony’s 50th anniversary, so the production will be especially wonderful. 8 724.942.0940 TO ADVERTISE ❘ On Sunday, Nov. 18, the Junior Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh will present its fall concert—Dreams and Dances—at Third Presbyterian Church. The nearly 50 young singers of the choir will be joined by guest musicians the Kassia Ensemble as they present a program of dreamlike choral music featuring Antonio Vivaldi’s “Beatus Vir RV 598,” Gwyneth Walker’s “Dreams and Dances,” and music by Abbie Betinis, Thomas Morley, Rosephayne Powell and Sarah Quartel. The Junior Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh ( JMCP) is the only program of its kind in the region and one of the country’s few vocal training programs for youth managed JUNIOR by a symphonic MENDELSSOHN choir. Founded in 1986 to serve CHOIR OF singers too PITTSBURGH old to perform with children’s choirs and too young to perform with adult choruses, JMCP enables talented students in grades 9 through 12 to train with accomplished professional singers and music educators. Scholarships ensure that no student is denied acceptance for financial reasons. “These young singers are exceptionally engaged and motivated,” says Caron Daley, music director of the JMCP. “They’re game to tackle any challenge, and their enthusiasm and skill make for exciting concerts. We are very proud to share their work with the community.” Many former JMCP members have gone on to make careers in music, and many now sing as adults in the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh (MCP), one of the most celebrated choirs in the country. The JMCP has performed with the Pittsburgh Symphony, the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Plum Creek Chamber Orchestra and the MCP. In addition to its fall concert, the JMCP will be performing with the MCP in “Let My People Go: A Spiritual Journey Along the Underground Railroad” on Feb. 15, 2019. PITTSBURGH CONCERT CHORALE ANNOUNCES 2018-2019 SEASON The Pittsburgh Concert Chorale has announced its 2018-2019 concert schedule, which includes a variety of musical styles sure to appeal to every taste.
