MAC Plans Another Year of Promoting the Arts in Monroeville

Until recently, the availability of art workshops for amateur and experienced artists in the area was extremely limited— but Monroeville Arts Council has risen to address that challenge. It is now offering workshops conducted by award-winning artists and art teachers to those interested in expanding their skills and knowledge in the visual arts.

In accordance with its mission of“ Promoting the Arts in the Community,” MAC offers twice-yearly workshops in the Monroeville Public Library Program Room at no charge for the instruction( non-members pay a nominal materials fee only). These events, held every March and October, are geared to those teens and adults who are interested in art regardless of their level of ability or experience. Each insightful and userfriendly offering allows the attendees to leave with an artwork worthy of framing and with new knowledge to enhance their learning and previous experience. Recent Saturday

Monroeville Arts Council offers many other uplifting activities for adults and children throughout the year and provides a range of events to promote creativity and enjoyment for local residents. Annual Sunday afternoon Summer Concerts are offered throughout July in the air-conditioned Gateway Middle School auditorium. Concerts, presented with support from UPMC East, have featured Judi Figel, Etta Cox and East Winds Symphonic Band, among other performers.
An enthusiastic throng of youngsters from the area can enjoy a day of fun each June at MAC’ s Kids’ Art in the Park in Monroeville Community Park West. This event is geared to meet the artistic and creative needs of children ages 3 and older and is held with support from Monroeville Rotary and Monroeville Recreation and Parks, along with Pat Catan’ s of Monroeville, the MPL’ s Children’ s Librarian and many dedicated and energetic MAC and local volunteers. Sunrise School Outreach and Gateway High School Awards are other important offerings of MAC each year.
Members of MAC devote their energies to enriching life for others in our area in many and varied ways. Membership is the key to continuing this all-volunteer organization. In today’ s world, art, music and crafts can provide a valuable source of enjoyment and escape for many persons.
