into this creative craft. Presented by the
talented spinners of the Butler Spinners and
Weavers Guild, as part of their Community
Outreach program, in conjunction with the
Depreciation Lands Museum, you will learn
to spin on a modern spinning wheel.
With a spinning wheel for each student to
use, as well as an accomplished spinner to
personally mentor you on the way, you will
learn each step of spinning. You will receive
a good supply of prepared wool fiber to spin,
and the yarn you produce will be yours to
keep. Along the way, we will demonstrate
the preparation required to ready fiber
for spinning, as well as how and where to
acquire your own supplies. Yes, there are
local shops where you can purchase yummy
fiber!
We will also talk about the books, videos
and magazines which are full of ideas and
teaching aides for the new spinner, as well as
how to acquire a wheel of your own.
Do you have a wheel you would like to
learn to use? Bring it along, and we will teach
you on your own wheel. Don't have a wheel?
No problem, we have plenty for you to use
during the class.
NOTE: Pre-paid registration is required
for this Class, and class size is limited.
The fee of $40 covers the use of a wheel,
tools, all materials and the lunch. (Discounts
available to BSWG and DLM members)
The classes are appropriate for adults and
teens, 14 years and older.

Cooking Classes! Cooking Classes!
• Open Hearth Cooking Class
Saturday, April 21, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Bee Hive Bake Oven Class
Saturday May 19, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Cooking over an open fire? Of course!
In April, you have the chance to learn
how to make a terrific meal over an open
fire! While today's meal will focus on
18th century foods, what you learn can
be applied to any era. Beginning with the
making of the fire, you will be expertly
guided to prepare the mid-day meal,
recalling the days when the fireplace served
as both heat for the home and the center
of the kitchen. Cooking at the hearth is not
limited to stew and soup! You will make
breads, meat dishes and, of course, desserts!
The day is completed by sharing the meal
you have prepared.
In May, you will have a chance to find out
how to make an entire meal in a Bee Hive
Bake Oven. You will learn to fire the oven,
prepare a full meal, and of course, share the
meal at the end of the day!
DLM has terrific and enthusiastic cooks
and teachers. You will not be disappointed
with your day!
Classes are open to teens, 14 and older,
and adults interested in a hands-on class.
Fee for either day-long class, including
all materials is $45 (10% discount for
DLM members); class size is limited to
six participants. ***Pre-paid registration is
required. n
