GIRL SCOUTS 2026 BOARD LEADERSHIP
Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania( GSHPA) recently announced its 2026 Board Leadership and Committee appointments, welcoming new and returning community leaders who will help guide the organization’ s mission across its 30-county service area.
Renee Mattei Montgomery was named board chair, Adrienne Vicari was appointed board vice chair, and Daniel Sheaffer Jr. will continue serving as treasurer. Several members at large and committee leaders were also appointed to support governance, strategic planning, fundraising and financial oversight.
GSHPA leaders noted that the board’ s expertise and community connections will help expand opportunities for girls to build confidence, develop leadership skills and make a positive impact in their communities.
VA PITTSBURGH EARNS FOUR-STAR QUALITY RATING
VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System has received a four-star rating in the 2026 Centers for Medicare & Medicaid
Services( CMS) Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings— a significant improvement from its one-star rating the previous year.
The ratings evaluate hospitals based on measures including mortality, safety, readmissions, patient experience, and timely, effective care.
VA Pittsburgh leaders credited the achievement to the dedication of staff members and their commitment to providing high-quality care for veterans. The healthcare system serves nearly 80,000 veterans annually through its medical centers and outpatient clinics across Western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio.
CARNEGIE MUSEUMS’ $ 500 MILLION CAMPAIGN
Carnegie Museums publicly launched its ALL TOGETHER campaign, a $ 500 million fundraising effort that will support new exhibits, educational programming, accessibility initiatives and facility improvements across its four museums: Carnegie Museum of Art, Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Kamin Science Center and The Andy Warhol Museum.
The campaign has already raised $ 360 million toward the goal, funding projects including Sports360 at the science center, The Pop District by The Warhol, and renovations to Carnegie Music Hall. Future plans include new early learning experiences, outdoor space enhancements and additional exhibits designed to expand access and engagement for the more than 1.5 million people the museums serve each year.
AHN CELEBRATES 100,000 BIRTHS
Allegheny Health Network( AHN) recently celebrated a major milestone, surpassing 100,000 births across its hospitals since the network was formed in 2013.
The achievement reflects more than a decade of growth and investment in maternal and newborn care throughout Western Pennsylvania, including the opening and expansion of labor and delivery units, neonatal intensive care services and specialized programs supporting maternal mental health.
AHN welcomed a record 8,756 babies in 2025 alone and continues to expand access to obstetric, gynecologic and midwifery services across the region. Network leaders credited the milestone to the dedication of caregivers and AHN’ s ongoing commitment to providing personalized, high-quality care for mothers and babies.
CHATHAM UNIVERSITY ADDS WOMEN’ S WRESTLING
Chatham University is launching a women’ s wrestling program, joining one of the fastest-growing sports in the country. The team is currently recruiting and will begin training and competition this fall under the leadership of coach Pat Durocher.
The addition comes as women’ s wrestling continues its rapid rise at the collegiate level, with the NCAA set to hold its first official women’ s wrestling championship in 2026.
Chatham will compete in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference alongside schools including Bethany, Hiram, Washington & Jefferson and Waynesburg, providing new opportunities for local student-athletes to continue wrestling at the collegiate level. n
