M & J WILKOW AND ALTO MAKE MAJOR FINANCIAL COMMITMENT TOWARD IMPROVING MIRACLE MILE
M & J Wilkow and Alto Real Estate Funds, parent owners of Miracle Mile, have committed more than half a million dollars toward improving the complex’ s exterior storefronts within the last several months. Located in one of the area’ s most populated suburbs, the upgrades to Miracle Mile are intended to enhance the center’ s appearance and provide a safer, more convenient shopping experience for visitors.
Improvements began in late 2017 with an expected completion date of late summer. Key upgrades include:
• A newly paved road stretching from Panera to PNC Bank with new drainage grates, fresh line striping and new traffic control signage.
• New contemporary black awnings.
• New LED lighting under the awnings along the storefronts and throughout the parking lot area to make the complex more accessible through the evening hours.
• New tenant signage prominently featured throughout the center.
• New roof for Office Max.
M & J Wilkow purchased Miracle Mile in September 2017 as part of a joint venture with Alto. According to Senior Vice President of M & J Wilkow, Marty Sweeney, this is the first installment of several renovations planned for Miracle Mile over the next few years.
“ Our plan is to provide incremental enhancements over time to update the overall look and feel of the property,” Sweeney says.“ Monroeville is a bustling area with lots of potential for future growth, but it’ s in need of a strong, modern retail destination. We’ re confident Miracle Mile can help fill that void.”
Miracle Mile is currently 98.5 percent leased, with a mix of national soft-goods retailers, a market-leading fitness center, and restaurants. This spring marked a milestone for Nazareth College and Career Prep High School, which celebrated the graduation of its very first senior class on June 7. Founded in 2014, the independent, Catholic high school uses creative strategies to bridge the education-toemployment skills gap for students of all backgrounds.
The 47 students of Nazareth Prep’ s class of 2018 have had a unique high school experience. Starting freshman year, they spent one full day per week gaining work experience at internships. Over the past four years, the list of Pittsburgh businesses and organizations that participate in the program has grown to more than 100 and includes major employers such as UPMC, PNC Bank and Allegheny General Hospital.
The students also participated in hands-on learning at a variety of Network Campus partners, from the Citizen Science Lab to the Manchester Craftsmen’ s Guild, and they consulted with members of Pittsburgh communities as they tackled real-world problems in project-based courses.
