Monroeville Arts Council Fall 2017 Events

MAC Promotes the Arts Throughout the Community

Promoting the arts in the community by offering uplifting activities for adults and children throughout the year, and providing a range of events to elevate energies in the direction of creativity and enjoyment, are the worthy goals of the Monroeville Arts Council( MAC). A dedicated group of MAC members devotes its energies to enriching life for others in our area in many and varied ways.
This spring, noted local artist Gigi Goldenson offered a popular Acrylic Landscape Painting Workshop through MAC’ s Educational Outreach event in the Monroeville Public Library( MPL) Program Room. The Saturday afternoon activity hosted 19 people( ages 18 and older) and provided an artistic opportunity for participants by way of an expressive painting.
On October 21, another Educational Outreach painting event will be held from 2 to 4 p. m. in the MPL Program Room. Susan Laansma Pollins, former Greensburg Artist of the Year, will conduct a watercolor workshop designed for any level of ability and experience.
A crafting workshop was held on the afternoon of April 29, also in the MPL Program Room.
An eager group assembled at this first-ever event and participated in a wide variety of crafting experiences. The group unanimously voted to continue with a Holiday Craft Event on December 2 at the library( from 1:30 to 4 p. m.). Anyone interested in contributing to this creative endeavor by donating materials, participating in any way, or instructing may call to leave a message for Nancy, MAC’ s workshop coordinator, at 412.373.0277.
An enthusiastic throng of youngsters in the area enjoyed a day of fun on June 17 at the 6th MAC’ s Kids’ Art in the Park. This event met the artistic and creative needs of children ages 3 and up, and was held with support from Monroeville Recreation and Parks, Pat Catan’ s of Monroeville, MPL’ s Children’ s Librarian and many dedicated and energetic MAC volunteers. Some families have already reserved the third Saturday of June 2018 in anticipation of next year’ s event, to be held at Monroeville Community Park West.
The July Sunday afternoon concerts— presented with support from UPMC East— featured Judi Figel, Etta Cox and East Winds Symphonic Band. The concerts were enjoyed by many in the air-conditioned comfort of the Gateway Middle School auditorium.
In the difficult world of today, art, music and crafts can highlight many lives. Consider supporting Monroeville Arts Council with your ideas, a
