STUDENTS WITH A 3.0 GPA QUALIFY FOR FREE RECORDING SESSION As of June 1, Van Taylor of 310 Recording Studio in Monroeville will be offering free one-hour recording sessions to students in elementary school through college who maintain a 3.0 GPA in their school studies. Taylor will honor the offer until New Year’s Day 2017 for the first 50 eligible students. Students must show their report cards prior to the start of the first recording session. Please note: The This year’s Celebrate Monroeville event is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 21, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Monroeville Convention Center. Presented by the Monroeville Area Chamber of Commerce, the evening will be filled with fun for all ages and will include special door prizes, local entertainment and much more — all while having the opportunity to mingle with representatives from various local businesses. MONROEVILLE’S SUMMER CONCERT SERIES There’s still time to catch a concert before the Monroeville Summer Concert Series comes to a close! The final evening of musical entertainment will be provided by 8th Street Rox on Sunday, Aug. 21, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Tall Trees Amphitheater in Monroeville Community Park. MUNICIPALITY OF MONROEVILLE RECEIVES LIVE WELL ALLEGHENY DESIGNATION The Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) recently announced that the Municipality of Monroeville is the latest to receive designation as a Live Well Allegheny community. Its participation brings the number of Live Well Allegheny communities to 24 that are embracing the countywide effort to “live well.” 6 724.942.0940 TO ADVERTISE | Monroeville In its ordinance for Live Well Allegheny, Monroeville Council has agreed to the following actions to encourage residents to live a healthy lifestyle: • Share wellness information with employees and the broader community. • Plan and implement a Live Well Allegheny event, in cooperation with the campaign, that encourages active living. • Encourage multi-modal transportation of residents by providing information about public transportation along with biking and walking resources. • Develop walking maps and measure distances mapped. • Promote and support farmers markets with emphasis on helping all of Monroeville residents have access to fresh and healthy foods. • Work with local food banks to help ensure access there to healthy foods. • Provide information regarding leisure activities for children and teens in Monroeville. Live Well Allegheny was launched in January 2014 as a comprehensive, innovative strategy on wellness that embraces a broad concept of living well to include physical health, mental wellness, personal and community safety, prevention and preparedness and much more. MONROEVILLE JAZZ FESTIVAL On Saturday, Aug. 20, the sweet sounds of jazz music will fill the air as the Monroeville Jazz Festival takes place starting at 6 p.m. at the Tall Trees Amphitheater in Monroeville Community Park. The Monroeville Jazz Festival has grown over its 14-year existence to become the premier jazz festival in southwestern Pennsylvania, and is still a free event because of generous sponsorships by numerous local companies. There will plenty of free parking including handicapped parking, excellent security provided by Monroeville police and great food and beverages available from local vendors on-site.
