Congratulations to one of our McDowell Trojans on some tremendous news-- The AP research of Smriti Shankar, an incoming McDowell senior, has caught the eye of a number of Ivy League universities! Harvard University’ s Needleman Lab is working with her to further her research. Smriti’ s reverseengineered method for identifying biomarkers in Alzheimer ' s disease shows great promise in the study of neurological diseases and has already identified 10 new biomarkers with an estimated 98 % accuracy. Have you heard of the Glue Dance? Mr. Maxwell’ s music class at Belle Valley chooses a body part to“ glue” to the ground for a short part of a song and dance with the rest of their body until the next part is chosen. Glued parts could be a foot, hands, stomach, everything, or nothing at all! This controlled, chaotic fun is an interactive way for young musicians to learn spatial & body awareness, movement control, rhythm, and how to start or stop with music. These skills help prepare them for interacting with music in its many forms, in and out of school.
