MILLCREEK TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT NEWS

In school , every student is taught how to read , write , do math , and so on . How students are taught and what books , assessments , lessons , or other resources they use are changed more frequently than you might think . These are all pieces that make up the curriculum for each subject area , and that curriculum is based on a framework of standards set by the state . MTSD ’ s Curriculum Department ensures our curriculum and resources are up to date and aligned with those standards . In the past three years , the department has revised curriculum and reviewed resources for Math , English Language Arts , Science , and many electives . By the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year , Social Studies will also be completed !

These updates involve researching resources , piloting the best options available , writing new curriculum and assessments , participating in trainings and professional development , and implementing the changes . The whole process typically involves more than 20 teachers and staff and takes more than two years to complete .
“ The amount of teachers who want to be involved in the process is incredible ,” said Hilary Gehrlein , one of MTSD ’ s three Supervisors of Curriculum . Many of the staff involved in the process dedicate hours of their own time analyzing data and recommending changes to help ensure their students are getting the world-class education MTSD aims to deliver . “ They want to know and make sure their
36 MILLCREEK students are walking out of their class prepared ,” said Jennifer Dunmire , Supervisor of Curriculum .
Across MTSD , teachers are implementing an online tool called IXL in their classrooms , which was piloted last school year . IXL provides support across subject areas that aligns with state standards and MTSD ’ s current resources . It gives teachers progress monitoring , intervention opportunities , acceleration options , and individual pathways for students – pushing every student to grow in their studies at their level . MTSD teachers are currently providing feedback and suggestions to help improve the implementation of IXL .
Parent involvement is crucial to the success of new curriculum and resources . We encourage all parents and guardians to talk to their children about all of the great things they ’ re doing in school each day .
Thank you , to all of our Millcreek community , for your continued support to enrich students ’ learning !
