End-of-Season Wrap Up
This fall season has seen such wonderful weather ! The leaves are just starting to come in and the flow of incoming brush has been steady all year .
The Millfair Compost Center staff has been screening dirt as much a weather permits , however dirt must be dry to screen properly making it hard to keep up with demand . On site , Heavy Equipment Operators use a Trommel Screener for the dirt similar to large Wildcat Screener but it ’ s much smaller . This machine can screen about 30 to 40 yards of dirt per day . It has 3 / 4 inch holes in the screen to separate the stones and debris from the soil . illcreek

LAST DAY OF THE SEASON
December 12 , 2021
Most people don ' t realize how much heavier dirt is than mulch or compost . When dirt is wet , it is even heavier ! Please check the air in your tires before coming to get a load of dirt . A dry yard of dirt weighs about 3,500 pounds , while wet dirt is closer to 5,000 pounds . Check your truck or trailer to see what it is rated to carry before stopping out to make a purchase !
Finally , we would like to send a special THANK YOU to Sherry Post for volunteering her time to plant and maintain the beautiful potted flowers leading up to the check-in booth . The plants and her generosity really brighten up the entrance to the composting facility ! Thank you for a great 2021 season and we will see you next year !
