EMBRACE MILLCREEK:
UPDATE TO LAND USE REGULATIONS BEGINS
L
ast August, Millcreek
Township adopted a
new comprehensive
plan titled Embrace Millcreek.
The plan is our community’s
vision for the future. Five
main focus areas came out of
the planning process:
1. Create a distractive and high-quality gateway district to
Presque Isle;
2. Strengthening neighborhood investment;
3. Position commercial corridors for adaptation and
redevelopment;
4. Support business development;
5. Promote strong and sustainable stewardship of
Township infrastructure.
As a major milestone towards reaching these goals,
Millcreek Township is undertaking an update of the two
main land use ordinances that control development - the
Zoning Code and the Subdivision & Land Development
20
MILLCREEK
Ordinance. Initial work will involve updates to the Zoning
Code.
A community’s zoning code divides the landscape into
districts, each of which comes with a set of regulations
governing what may be built, how much may be built,
and where on the lot it may be built. Subdivision and land
development ordinances establish regulations for the
redrawing of lot lines, as well as the design and grading
of streets, and the construction of public or private land
improvements: In other words, how things may be built.
The Board of Supervisors and staff have embarked on
an update process that will be transparent and include
multiple opportunities for the public to remain engaged
and informed. Stay tuned for news on upcoming events as
the process unfolds!
