The Distribution Department Delivers Reliability Every Day

The Erie Water Works Distribution Department has thirty-one employees comprised of Heavy Equipment Operators, Installers, Laborers, a Mechanic, a Dispatcher, an office support Clerk, Supervisors and a Senior Manager. The dedicated Distribution team provides around-the-clock coverage- 365 days a year! They are responsible for responding to water emergencies, maintaining the existing system, installing new service connections, and constructing water main replacements and extensions. illcreek

They repair an average of 245 water main breaks per year, with the bulk of these occurring during the months of December through March. Aside from the emergency response, this team is responsible for maintaining the water distribution system infrastructure including: 775 miles of water main( ranging in size from 2-inch to 5-inch), 4,137 fire hydrants, 13,728 mainline valves, and over 65,000 customer service connections.
Safety is a priority for both our team and the community we serve. You can help by exercising caution near work zones and reporting water emergencies. When you encounter a work zone while driving please be attentive to the traffic control signs and barricades to keep yourself and the workers that maintain the water distribution system safe. With winter in our rearview mirror, yard and road restoration work will begin in the order the original repair work was completed. We appreciate your patience. Also, if grass restoration is done in your front yard, please make sure to water it regularly!

The Erie Water Works will never send an employee to your home or business to collect payment or ask for your credit or debit card, banking or social security number. If an Erie Water Works representative needs to visit your home or business be sure to verify their identity. Never allow anyone claiming to work for the“ water company” into your home unless you are confident of their Erie Water Works affiliation.

All Erie Water Works employees are required to carry a photo ID badge. All Erie Water Works personnel wear company branded clothing and drive a company branded vehicle.
