One project that might surprise most residents is the inventory of Millcreek’ s Sanitary and Stormwater Systems.“ A lot of work has been put in over the past few years to diligently get up-to-date information on these systems,” Matt says.
Today, nearly all of that infrastructure is mapped digitally, supporting the Township’ s asset management program and allowing staff to track, maintain, and update those assets when needed.
GIS That Works for Every Department
What Matt is most proud of, though, comes back to his colleagues.“ Our GIS software is being utilized by my colleagues across all departments. They now see what I see: that GIS is a powerful tool they can use to make a further impact on Millcreek Township.”
When Matt joined Millcreek in 2020, the GIS program looked very different from what it is today.“ I mostly worked on data entry and map making for a single department,” he recalls. Since then, he’ s worked to implement GIS systems across every Township
department, building an infrastructure where information is“ stored in an organized, effective manner.”
Additionally, the majority of firefigh trained paramedics and are able to life saving care before EMS arrives t scene.
That structure matters because of what it makes possible.“ Proper tracking and storage of important Township information gives us the ability to properly analyze the data,” Matt explains.
