Improving the Well-Being of Individuals with Disabilities

Summer is a wonderful time in our community. As the days get longer and it begins to warm up, we wanted to share information about some of our area’ s nonprofit organizations that are doing incredible work to provide various services to individuals with disabilities.
Erie County Department of Health- 911 Special Needs Registry
Any resident of Erie County, Pennsylvania who has a physical or intellectual disability that might prevent them from leaving their home quickly during an emergency, can submit this information into the Erie County 911 Special Needs Registry in just a few minutes.
The information you enter is linked to your home address and made available to 911 dispatchers. They can then tell first responders like fire fighters, police officers, and medical personnel what type of special support is needed upon arrival.
The registry is voluntary and HIPAA compliant; however, if a 911 emergency occurs at your home, your information will be shared with local, county, state, and federal agencies as necessary.
A parent, guardian, or power of attorney can register on behalf of someone unable to do so. Information is stored for three years, with an email reminder to update your registration.
To register your information visit: eriecountypa. gov / SpecialNeedsRegistry or call the Erie County Department of Public Safety at 814.451.7920. Contact: Mary Johnson, Program Coordinator, Erie County Department of Health, 814.451.6543, mjohnson @ eriecountypa. gov, eriecountypa. gov.
