Ask The Sustainability Director

JESSICA STUTZMAN
QUESTION: The 65-gallon recycle toter is too large for my elderly mother to bring to and from the curbside each week. Do you have something smaller?-Julie C.
ANSWER: Yes! Absolutely! We offer a 35-gallon recycling toter on wheels with a lid, available at no cost. These bins were made possible through the PA DEP 902 Grant funding and are specifically for Millcreek Township residents to ensure everyone can participate in recycling. If you ' re already enrolled in the Waste Management curbside program, you likely have a 65-gallon toter. However, the smaller 35-gallon toter is an excellent option for residents who need a more manageable size due to space constraints or accessibility challenges. It ' s also well-suited for those living in apartments, condos, or mobile home parks.
Please note that supplies are limited, and you must show a valid driver’ s license to receive a toter. Residents may stop by the Millcreek Township building’ s front reception desk to pick one up during normal business hours( Monday- Friday, 8am- 4:30pm).
QUESTION: How do I properly dispose of a mattress in Millcreek Township?-Benjamin T.
ANSWER: Millcreek Township’ s curbside collection contract allows for one bulky item pickup per week, yearround at no additional cost. To schedule the pickup of a mattress or any other bulky item, the easiest method is to use the Waste Management website QR code below. These items will be collected on your usual collection day.
For the safety of the WM drivers, please ensure all items are under 50 lbs. or disassembled into sections that meet this weight limit.
Residents should schedule the pickup at least 48 hours in advance and place the item curbside the night before. Important: A mattress must be wrapped in plastic. You can use a sealed mattress bag or plastic painting drop cloths sealed with duct tape.
