With the Fourth of July coming , we would like to remind everyone about the Millcreek Township Firework Permit process and about firework safety .

The permit provides guidelines to provide general guidance for the use of display fireworks . The information provided in this article is not all inclusive . Firework display operators must meet the minimum Federal regulations , Commonwealth of Pennsylvania codes , and Millcreek Township ordnances , as well as National Fire Protection ( NFPA ) and International Fire Code ( IFC ) standards .

Q : When must I turn in my permit application ? A : The firework display operator must submit their permit application at least 15 days prior to the event .
Q : Who do I submit my permit application to ? A : You can submit your permit application to the Millcreek Township Code Enforcement office by dropping the permit application off at the front lobby , or by mailing it in . Our mailing address is 3608 West 26th Street , Erie , PA 16506 .
Q : What must be included with the permit application ? A : You must submit the following :
• ATF License
• Liability Insurance - $ 1,000,000 minimum ( clearly covering a pyrotechnics display with Millcreek Township listed as an additional insured )
• A current copy of the firework display operator ’ s state issued driver ’ s license or identification card .
• A list of all firework display operator assistants who will work the fireworks display
• Check or money order for the permit application fee

PUBLIC DISPLAY REQUIREMENTS ( OUTDOOR – GROUND LEVEL )
Know the rules to be safe …
• Provide a minimum of two , 2.5 gallon pressurized water extinguishers , currently serviced
• Provide a water container for duds or misfired shells
• Provide barricades and barriers to keep unauthorized personnel out of the site / fallout area
• Mortars are to be in good condition
• All assistants must be 18 years of age or older
• Firework display operators and assistants located within the fallout area are required to have all the proper safety gear / protective clothing on during the firing of the display and immediately after the display .
