Letter from the Supervisors
OK … so by comparison, this winter wasn’ t too bad. Not our usual 100 inches of snow. Few sub-zero temperatures. A fairly mild March led us to believe Punxsutawney Phil might know what he’ s doing. Then came April. Snow and record cold temperatures had the poor daffodils totally confused. Better weather has finally arrived. Let’ s enjoy. Last year at this time, we were introducing readers to Millcreek’ s newest addition to our parks system, Bridger Park. In this issue, readers are getting a look at another new recreational option, the Veterans Park Picnic Pavilion. The Pavilion would be a great place for family reunions, birthday and graduation parties.
As is always the case, our summer edition of In Millcreek includes lots of valuable information on recycling. The very popular Millfair Recycling Center, is open for business and offering several different products to help beautify your yard. It’ s a great place to properly dispose of your tree branches and leaves left behind by winter. This edition also has information about some upcoming recycling events, like compost workshops, paper shredding and tire collection.
Summertime usually means family vacations. Our Millcreek Police Department is offering some helpful ways to keep your home safe while out of town.
Our area has so much to offer … in every season. Summer in Erie though, is unbeatable. We have the # 1 Best Freshwater Beaches( check out the article), fishing, boating, hiking, golf, picnicking, baseball, the list is endless. Get out and have some fun.

Presque Isle:
Freshwater Beach
Something that our community has known for years was recently confirmed in a USA Today 10 Best Readers’ Choice contest. Voters in the contest chose Presque Isle State Park as the nation’ s Best Freshwater Beach. Nineteen other beaches from across the country were also competing for the title.
The top five beaches on the list were West Beach in Indiana at number five; North Beach in Racine, Wisconsin at number four; Park Point Beach in Duluth, Minnesota came in third and Grand Haven State Park in Michigan was runner-up to our own Presque Isle.
The USA Today’ s 10 Best is a website used by travelers, offering places to see and visit on their trips throughout the country. Making that list is impressive. Being at the top of the list can be a big boost for the local tourist industry.
Thanks to those who voted and helped make Presque Isle # 1!
