Buried but Not Forgotten: Protecting Your Regional Water System
You can’ t see them, but some of the most important public water system assets are buried deep underground. The Erie Water Works operates and maintains over 785 miles of water main which are located roughly 5 feet below roadways and lawns, along with over 62,000 customer connections and service lines in the regional water system.
Anyone planning to dig – whether for a home improvement or construction project – must call the PA One Call System at 811 before digging. This free service ensures underground utilities are clearly marked to prevent damage, reduce the risk of human injury, and protect public safety and the environment.
