In addition to providing students with their operator certificate , the lab gives students real-world work experience without needing to leave the high school setting . The students learn to run all aspects of a business , from accounting , to marketing , to production schedules . Students are making parts that are essential for creating other products in almost every industry from transportation and food processing , to packaging and manufacturing .
Most recently , the McDowell Manufacturing Lab was granted a check for $ 350,000 from the Gene Haas Foundation for naming rights to the lab . “ We have had a wonderful partnership with Haas over the last four to five years . They have seen the investment Millcreek Township School District has provided to manufacturing education . This focus on the future talent pipeline is also the mission of the Gene Haas Foundation ,” Bucholtz said .
The check is the latest of $ 404,925 in grants and donations that the lab has received since its inception , now totaling $ 754,925 that has been and will continue to be used for attaining top-tier equipment , materials , scholarships and more . The latest upgrades will come as part of a renovation to McDowell High School ’ s entire technology wing , which is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2024 .
