How should land use rules shape Millcreek Township’s future? M illcreek Township is hosting an open house event to gather input on an update to the Township’s zoning ordinance. All residents, business owners and other interested parties are invited to attend on March 12th, 2020 at the Millcreek Township Municipal Building in the Assembly Room, 3608 West 26th Street; Erie, PA 16506. A brief overview presentation will kick off the meeting starting at 6:00 PM, though interested persons may stop by at any point between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM to learn about the project and/or provide input. Following the adoption of the Embrace Millcreek comprehensive plan, Township officials and staff started work to update the Township’s zoning ordinance, a set of local regulations controlling what may be built in certain locations, how much may be built, and where on the lot it may be built. The zoning ordinance is the best tool the Township has to enable creation of the types of places envisioned in the plan. In addition to modernizing and streamlining regulations, the update will promote mixed-use development and introduce design standards in targeted areas, such as the Presque Isle Gateway District; broaden the array of housing options across the Township; open up flexibility that will allow commercial corridors to respond to changing market demands; and remove regulatory impediments that currently slow down or discourage redevelopment. This meeting will provide an opportunity for attendees to examine maps of existing and proposed future zoning districts and review ideas about how development and redevelopment should be permitted to take place in each. All are encouraged to visit www.millcreektownship.com/survey to participate in a brief preliminary survey to inform the ordinance update.
