tudents at McDowell High School have an opportunity to take
part in the Community Connections Internship Program (CCIP).
This program was established to create awareness and develop
career education activities to better prepare young people for the
workplace. Through this program, McDowell students are presented
with relevant opportunities that provide practical connections
between skills gained in the classroom and real world experiences.
In partnership with local businesses, McDowell students are
given opportunities to explore their career interests right here in
their own community. Students attend regular classes at McDowell
Senior High School and are dismissed during the school day to
attend a worksite in the community. Schedules are individualized
based on employer and student needs; however, most students are
typically expected to work at least eight to ten hours per week. By
obtaining an opportunity within a local business, students develop
career experience to better prepare them for the workplace and
their future. It will also give students an opportunity to make an
informed decision about the career they are interested in pursuing
after graduation.
While fulfilling this course elective requirement, students
must complete a timecard and journal entries. In turn, Work-Site
Supervisors are responsible for providing a weekly “evaluation of
student performance” form to the District’s Internship Coordinator.
