With warmer weather on the horizon, residents should prepare for the possible severe weather that comes with it. As a StormReady community, your Township officials have taken steps to keep you informed of severe weather and respond to emergencies. We ask that all Township residents keep in mind these simple steps to prepare you for any severe weather.

1 Develop a disaster plan for you and your family at home, work, school, and when outdoors. Put together an emergency kit that will last you 3 days.
2 Identify a safe place to take shelter inside and in areas outdoors that you frequent often.
3 Have a NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards receiver unit with a warning alarm tone and battery back-up to receive warning bulletins.

Recreational Fires Rules

This time of year, many residents of Millcreek are beginning to clean up their yards in preparation of warmer spring and summer weather. The Bureau of Fire Prevention often receives calls inquiring about the regulations surrounding recreational fires in the Township.
Recreational Fires MUST meet all of the following provisions:
• May NOT be any larger than 3’ L x3’ W x3’ H and in a contained pit or a commercially available container
• If in a commercially available container- Must be at least 15’ away from a structure
• If in a constructed pit- Must be at least 25’ away from a structure
• If Gas or Charcoal Grill- Must be at least 10’ away from the structure( Not permitted on balconies or decks of multi-family dwellings without sprinkler systems)
• Must be attended at all times by someone 16 years of age or older
• Must use dry-seasoned wood
** All outdoor and recreational fires must have a water source ready to extinguish the fire at any time **

5 Listen to commercial radio or television / cable TV for weather information.
6 Monitor the Millcreek Township Office of Emergency Management Facebook Page and follow us on twitter at @ MillcreekEMA for Severe Weather Tips and updates on the any severe storms in our area.
7 Check the weather forecast before leaving for extended periods outdoors. Watch for signs of approaching storms.
8 If severe weather threatens, check on people who are elderly, very young, or physically or mentally disabled. Don’ t forget about pets and farm animals.
We ask that you consider the effects of your activity on your neighbors as well as the current fire danger conditions. The Fire Marshal is permitted to order a burn ban if conditions warrant. The Fire Marshal is also authorized to issue permits for community bonfire events. For permits or further burning inquiries, please contact the Millcreek Fire Marshal at 814-833-1111 ext. 353.
Residents who witness an uncontrolled outside fire or witness illegal burning are encouraged to contact 911 or the Millcreek Police at 814.833.7777.
