F EVENTS FOR VETERANS amilies of veterans as well as veterans themselves can benefit from attending veteran events to see what services are available for their loved one. Veterans’ events in our area in the coming months include: H Convoy of Hope on August 18: Newer to the Erie area, this event provides veterans with services such as free groceries, health and dental screenings, haircuts, family portraits, and meals at the event. It begins, rain or shine, at 10 am at Pfeiffer-Burleigh Elementary School. H Veteran Job Club every Monday: Job searching can be a daunting task but veterans do not have to go through the job searching process alone. Erie VA Medical Center provides a free job club open to all Veterans interested in obtaining employment on every Monday from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at the Erie VA Medical Center Behavioral Health Clinic on the first floor. This job club offers employment assistance with resumes, interview skills, job searching and support throughout the process. For more information, call 814-860- 2861. H The Moving Wall’s stop in Meadville September 20 to 24: Hosted by the VVnW Post 52 in Diamond Park, this tribute to those who paid the ultimate price in Vietnam will be available to visit 24 hours per day. Daily activities are planned. H Soldiers’ & Sailors’ Gala on November 3: Celebrating those who served in the military, this event will feature heavy hors d’oeuvres, entertainment, keynote speaker, and silent auction, benefitting both Embracing Our Veterans and the Pennsylvania Soldiers’ & Sailors’ Home. Embracing Our Veterans is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, specializing in helping transition homeless veterans into apartments, turning that empty apartment into a home with a warm bed. Tickets available through Eventbrite.com. H Annual Veterans Day Parade & Ceremony on Saturday, November 10: Show your support for local Veterans at this annual parade. All Veterans, their families, and community members are invited to attend. The Veterans Day Parade starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Veterans Stadium (corner of 26th & State) and marches south on State Street, ending at the Erie VA Medical Center.
