A Health Fair is coming
to your Community!
And you are the perfect person to attend!
Before long summer will come to a close.
We will all start gearing up for the colder
months, school will be back in session and
life in Northwest Pennsylvania will turn into
a colorful fall and snowy winter. During this
time many community events take place in
the region. One of the events that is sure to
be scheduled near you is a community health
fair. So, mark your calendars! But, you may
be asking if there really is something there
for you. YES! And if you have never been to a
health fair, get ready to go because a treasure
trove of resources, information and helpful
vendors are waiting to greet you, answer your
questions and assist you with any and all of
your healthcare questions and concerns.
Who should attend a health fair? Absolutely
everyone from our newest additions to the
family to our elders will benefit from the
resources available at a health fair. Beautiful
vendor tables with literature, free give-a-ways
and professionals from all facets of health care
are ready to share their expertise. You will
love the one-to-one experience that a fair can
offer. It is a virtual cornucopia of information,
ideas and solutions for your health and
wellbeing to-do list. But that is not all that will
be available at a health fair. Free screenings,
inoculations, coffee, snacks and door prizes
are just some of the perks that can be made
available at the various locations. So, make
a date for you and everyone in your family
for the next health fair in your community.
Come browse, visit, and snack, win a door
prize and get your health and well-being
to-do list checked off with the help of a local
Community health fair.
When attending one of these events,
older adults, in particular, will have the
chance to meet with representatives from
a wide variety of agencies and business,
including hospitals, home care and medical
equipment companies, nursing and assisted
living facilities, insurance companies, social
service agencies, and financial institutions. A
highlight for many participants is the many
giveaways of collateral items. Be prepared to
receive a tote bag from one of the sponsors
and to fill it with a plethora of fun freebie
items! However, be careful to resist the
urge to simply “grab and go.” The staff
people behind the tables are experts in their
fields and offer a diverse base of knowledge
and experience. They are eager to engage
attendees in conversation, and you just may
be surprised at the tips and tricks you can
learn by listening to them!
Many of these events also offer some
type of complementary refreshments and
an exciting Chinese auction or prizes. As
mentioned, participants are also given the
opportunity to get their annual flu shots at
most of these happenings. The events are
