We will all start gearing up for the colder months, school will be back in session and life in Northwest Pennsylvania will turn into a colorful fall and snowy winter. During this time many community events take place in the region. One of the events that is sure to be scheduled near you is a community health fair. So, mark your calendars! But, you may be asking if there really is something there for you. YES! And if you have never been to a health fair, get ready to go because a treasure trove of resources, information and helpful vendors are waiting to greet you, answer your questions and assist you with any and all of your healthcare questions and concerns. Who should attend a health fair? Absolutely everyone from our newest additions to the family to our elders will benefit from the resources available at a health fair. Beautiful vendor tables with literature, free give-a-ways and professionals from all facets of health care are ready to share their expertise. You will love the one-to-one experience that a fair can offer. It is a virtual cornucopia of information, ideas and solutions for your health and wellbeing to-do list. But that is not all that will be available at a health fair. Free screenings, inoculations, coffee, snacks and door prizes are just some of the perks that can be made available at the various locations. So, make a date for you and everyone in your family for the next health fair in your community. Come browse, visit, and snack, win a door prize and get your health and well-being to-do list checked off with the help of a local Community health fair. When attending one of these events, older adults, in particular, will have the chance to meet with representatives from a wide variety of agencies and business, including hospitals, home care and medical equipment companies, nursing and assisted living facilities, insurance companies, social service agencies, and financial institutions. A highlight for many participants is the many giveaways of collateral items. Be prepared to receive a tote bag from one of the sponsors and to fill it with a plethora of fun freebie items! However, be careful to resist the urge to simply “grab and go.” The staff people behind the tables are experts in their fields and offer a diverse base of knowledge and experience. They are eager to engage attendees in conversation, and you just may be surprised at the tips and tricks you can learn by listening to them! Many of these events also offer some type of complementary refreshments and an exciting Chinese auction or prizes.
