Many businesses in our community have these life-saving devices, but the public and Emergency Medical Responders may not be aware that these vital, life saving devices are available. Recently, Saint Vincent Hospital and Highmark BlueCross Blue Shield launched a program that will allow all residents in our community the ability to identify the location of these devices and alert those trained in CPR that a cardiac event is occurring in their community. This program, called PulsePoint, is a smart phone app that notifies CPR-trained citizens that a cardiac arrest event is occurring in their vicinity. This allows these individuals, if they choose, to provide lifesaving care until emergency services arrive. In addition, the app will identify the location of AEDs in the community. To get involved in this program, download the PulsePoint app to your Smart Device today. There are two apps available; one is the PulsePoint AED app that lets you identify AEDs in the community. This app is active now. The other is the PulsePoint respond app that will alert bystanders of a nearby cardiac arrest. This app will be active within the next 12 months. Both PulsePoint apps are free, available for both iPhone and Android, and can be downloaded from the iTunes Store and Google Play. For more information, please feel free to contact Dr. Jestin Carlson, MD at Saint Vincent Hospital at jestin.carlson@ahn.org or at pulsepoint@ahn.org. MILLCREEK ❘ FALL 2018 27
