Residents can now look to the fall season with much anticipation. Not only does the 2018-2019 school year begin this month, but evening temperatures will start to cool off too. This will lead us into many sporting events held under the Gus Anderson stadium lights. We want to begin this issue of the IN Millcreek magazine with a greater appreciation for the 4th of July Parade event organizers, participants, and attendees. Each year this parade highlights community pride and the treasures offered here in our own backyard. The 2018 parade was spectacular! Be sure to check out each of the informative articles that are from the different departments of Millcreek Township. The Millcreek Police Department is currently focusing their efforts on both aggressive driving and seatbelt safety—information that can be life-saving. This issue also details programs on property tax rent rebate, Lifeworks LECOM workshops, and Millcreek Government Channel interviews which are made available through the Public Services Department. Don’t miss the Recycling Department’s “Ask the Coordinator” feature article on why plastic bags should not be used to contain recycling curbside. Also included, the Department of Emergency Management reminds us of the precautionary steps we need to take in preparing our children and pets for an emergency situation. Finally, the volunteer fire departments need your support by volunteering your time or donating online! The Board of Millcreek Supervisors wishes the best to all of our residents and visitors for a safe and healthy fall season. John Groh, John Morgan, Jim Bock ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL 4TH OF JULY PARADE July 4th is a time to celebrate our independence and honor those who fought to secure it. For 53 years, the Millcreek Parade has entertained thousands of residents. This year was no exception. The parade route on West 12th Street from Marshall Drive to Ford Avenue was lined with red, white and blue clad attendees along with excited young faces anxiously awaiting some candy to be handed their way. This year’s parade was one of the highest attended with an estimate of over 30,000 people enjoying the beautiful weather and patriotic festivities. The undertaking of the parade requires planning, hard work and community effort. Thank you to the Parade Committee, the Sportsman’s Athletic Club , American Legion Post 773, Elk’s Lodge #67, Birkmire Trucking, Millcreek Township, Millcreek Police, additional sponsors, volunteers and all the participants and attendees. Without all of you, the annual parade would not be the success it has become throughout the years.
