WHAT’S NEWS IN MCKEESPORT
NEARLY $350,000 IN
STATE FUNDING FOR
MCKEESPORT TO
IMPROVE TRAFFIC
SAFETY
McKeesport will benefit from the
implementation of a traffic safety program
and other traffic-related improvements
following a $344,000 grant disbursement
to the city, announced State Rep. Austin
Davis, D-Allegheny.
The grant funding is from PennDOT’s
Automated Red Light Enforcement
(ARLE) program, designed to improve
safety at signalized intersections by
providing automated enforcement at
locations where traffic data shows that
red-light running is a concern.
McKeesport’s ARLE funding will be
used to upgrade the traffic signal at the
intersection of Versailles Avenue and
Evans Street by installing new traffic signal
supports, signal heads, pedestrian
accommodations, controller assembly,
detection, and new ADA curb ramps;
create a traffic safety program that would
assess the needs of intersections
throughout the city where there are large
pedestrian and vehicle conflicts, speeding

issues and sight distance problems; and
install accessible pedestrian signals at the
intersection of Lysle Boulevard and
Coursin Street.
“This is great news for the city of
McKeesport. Improving traffic and
pedestrian safety is key to ensuring the
safety of our residents, as well as
continuing progress in our revitalization
efforts. These funds will help ensure
McKeesport is a destination attraction
here in the Mon Valley,” Davis said.
Funding for the program, as required
under state law, is supplied by fines from
red-light violations at 30 intersections in
Philadelphia.
