Design to Make a Difference
Eighth graders Kaitlyn Majewski (not pictured), Luciano Lanz, Collin Klein,
Autumn Tavagione, and Zach Manfredo participated in the 2nd annual
“Design To Make A Difference” showcase, at the Educational Partnership
building, in Pittsburgh.
Their project won 1st place for Innovation/Creativity, 2nd place for
Research and 3rd place in Engaging Pitch. The idea of their project was to
develop a device that would lock a person’s car keys in a secure box that
could only be opened if they passed a blood alcohol monitor ( breathalyzer).
An app would then send a code to the individual’s phone that would
provide the combination to the locked box. If the individual does not pass
the breathalyzer, the number for an Uber would pop up instead of the
correct combination to unlock the key box.
The students presented their project to 3 different sets of judges
throughout the day.
Congratulations to these students for a job well done!
