IN McKeesport Summer 2016 | Page 34

Dear MASD Community Members, On June 8, 2016, McKeesport Area School District will hold our 133rd commencement ceremony on the high school campus along Eden Park Boulevard. The commencement ceremony for our senior class signifies the successful completion of many years of hard work and dedication to learning. It is important to recognize our district’s communities during this time of the year. Without the effort of each of you, our students would not have been afforded the educational opportunities that are available in our district. Many of the challenges that are ahead of our graduating seniors will be successfully overcome by the critical thinking and learning that they have acquired through their education. It is with great pride and excitement that we welcome these graduates into the illustrious group of McKeesport Area High School Alumni that I, too, am proud to be a part of. cKeespor cKeesportt C ity Mc Keesport of Mc Keesport ARE A SC HO N ews O L DI ST RI C T News The commencement ceremony marks the conclusion of a very successful and exciting school year. Over this school year, we have continued to grow our Pre-K program. We look forward to offering quality Pre-K programming within the district and hope that you are checking our website (www.mckasd.net) for enrollment information. Our students have shared many accomplishments with the community this school year. Our Building Construction and Robotics students completed a building project in conjunction with many foundations across the United States. Teaming up with the NFL, Blueroof Technologies and the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, the home built by our students was gifted to a local veteran, SSgt Michelle Satterfield, in White Oak. Our music department at the high school also took part in a nationally recognized program, which enabled the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus to make a stop at our high school. Our students were able to create a song and a professional music video to accompany it. The video can be found on our website. Even though classes are not in session during the summer, MASD has many offerings that we encourage students to participate in. Programs such as Camp Invention, the Summer Family Literacy Program, PAWS Summer Camp, Credit Recovery, and a Summer School Program through the YMCA are all available to our community. Call 412-664-3645 to find out more information on each of these programs. Please continue to share our pride and love for our community by sharing this magazine, following us on our website or social media, and being involved in all of our building activities throughout the upcoming 2016 – 2017 school year. During the summer and the next school year, our central administrative team will continue to visit the community by setting up and participating in local events. We encourage you to attend! Congratulations and Good Luck to our Graduating Class of 2016! Yours in Education, Rula S. Skezas, ED.D. Superintendent 32 McKeesport Area Dear MASD Families, McKeesport Area School District is finishing the year strong! In the pages to follow, please find stories from each of our schools that highlight the activities, programs, and lessons going on in our buildings. You will see stories about progress, success and how we lend a helping hand to our community. As always, one of the biggest factors in the overall success of our students and our district is the ability to work in partnership with our parents and the community. We hope that you feel welcome in our schools and that you will take advantage of opportunities to become involved, to learn more about your school district and to be a part of the many things that are taking place from now until the end of the school year. Members of the school board of directors encourage parents and guardians to be actively involved, in all areas if the district, by attending board and building level meetings. Board Meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of every month. Sessions begin at 7:30 p.m. in the board room at the district administration building, located at 3590 O’Neil Boulevard in McKeesport. On behalf of the board, have a safe and relaxing summer! Sincerely, Joe Lopretto President, McKeesport Area School District Board of Directors
