The 5K also provides an opportunity for families and people with pets to participate. Both are held on the Yough River Trail of the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP), which provides a flat, fast, crushed-limestone surface. Medals are given in both races. The Mon Yough Trail Council hosts this race, now in its ninth year. It raises necessary funds for trail maintenance and upkeep throughout the year as one of a network of all-volunteer councils that exist along the GAP specifically to keep the trail open and accessible for all.
