JOIN THE 2016 GREAT
AMERICAN CLEANUP OF
PA
The 2016 Great American Cleanup of PA
runs from Mar. 1 through May 31. During
this period, registered events can get trash
bags, gloves and safety vests from PennDOT
district offices, while supplies last. Events
include litter cleanups, illegal dump cleanups,
beautification projects, special collections and
educational events. As part of this event, the
Pennsylvania Department of Environmental
Protection and the Pennsylvania Waste
Industries Association will sponsor “Let’s
Pick It Up PA” – every day from Apr. 16
to May 9. During the Pick It Up PA days,
registered events will be able to take the trash
collected during their cleanup to participating
landfills for reduced or free disposal.
DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY
WITH THE GLENN MILLER
ORCHESTRA
The world-famous Glenn Miller
Orchestra will perform at the Monroeville
Convention Center on Friday, May 13.
Tickets can be purchased for $50 per person
and include dinner at 7 p.m. followed by
an evening of dancing to the sweet sounds
of the live orchestra. Cash bar/cocktails
will also be available beginning at 6 p.m. To

OPEN YOUR HEART TO A
SENIOR
Volunteers are needed year-round
and countywide to help seniors remain
independent and stay safe in their homes.
United Way’s Open Your Heart to a Senior
initiative now has several nonprofit partners
in Allegheny County to provide volunteer
services to seniors. Volunteers can deliver
meals, take seniors to appointments or the

grocery store, help at senior centers and much

WHITE OAK ADOPT-ABLOCK PROGRAM
Have you noticed some trash along the block
you live on? Want to help by cleaning it up?
Well here is your chance! Adopt-A-Block(s).
Give a helping hand to keep the block(s) in
White Oak beautiful. An individual, family or
group can adopt up to however many blocks
they are willing to care for. Materials (bags,
gloves and safety vests) will be provided for
the days you will be cleaning your block(s).

White Oak Borough office. Start at any time
to clean up the block(s) you choose. Please
clean your “adopted” block(s) at least once

SCHOLARSHIP
COMPETITION
Auditions for the $8,000 Keynotes Music
Scholarship Competition will be held on
May 21 in the Mt. Lebanon High School Fine
Arts Theater. The number of contestants is
limited to 20. The competition is available
to music students of exceptional talent who
are residents of Allegheny and Washington
counties.
Instrumentalists must be under 26 years
of age by June 1. Voice students must be
under 30.
Contestants must be full-time music
majors currently enrolled in a music school
or in the music department of a college or
university. Graduating high school students
are eligible if they have been accepted for
admission and will enroll as full-time music
majors in the fall of 2016.
Payment of the scholarship will be
made directly to the winners the day of
the competition. For applications and
