MAYOR’S
McKeesport has made countless economic strides in recent
years with industries including Vegley Welding, American Textile
Co., and TriWire Industries, as well as new retailers like ALDI,
Family Dollar, Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, O’Reilly Auto Parts, and
many more.
It was the sale of our local sewage treatment system in
2017 that brought access to new funds that continue to allow
for improvements, specifically in the removal of blight and
improvement of infrastructure. Those improvements encourage
economic development and residential investment throughout
the City of McKeesport.
Also in this quarter’s edition of In McKeesport Area, you will
see highlights of our summer, including the 60th anniversary of
International Village, the Renzie Rib Fest, and more.
I invite you to read about this quarter’s Living the Message
Awardees, nominated by the community to the Mayor’s Select
Committee on Crime and Violence for embracing the city’s
message of “Respect, Dignity, Hope, and Love” in their daily
lives. This quarter, we will recognize veteran and volunteer Ernie
Oatneal, Barbara Williams of the Community Partnership for
HIV/AIDS prevention, developer Jonathan Stark, and Altrusa
president Helene Moux.
As we look ahead to the fall and winter seasons, stay tuned
to the City of McKeesport Mayor’s Office Facebook page for
updates on community events including our Halloween Parade
on October 26, the Salute to Santa Parade on November 23, and
the Festival of Trees on December 5 through 9.
As always, I will end this letter with an invitation to join your
friends and neighbors in carrying out my administration’s motto
of “Working Together for a Better McKeesport.” This slogan is an
invitation for every member of the McKeesport community. We
all can make a positive impact here. Together we can continue
to make positive strides.
