transferred to the fourth floor of the Elks Building in McKeesport and the show completed its run on schedule. A closed school on Walnut Street in Versailles was offered by the McKeesport School District as a new stage venue and productions continued there for one year.
In the fall of 1974, under the presidency of Arlene Gallagher, the group purchased a closed synagogue and adjacent dwelling located at the corner of Coursin Street and Bailey Avenue in McKeesport, where the theater is still located today.
The Board of Directors started an era of growth through fundraising and extremely well-received productions that were unparalleled in the Pittsburgh area. They converted the acquired building into a complete community theater facility with seating for 175 that was as comfortable for the performers as the patrons.
By July 1983, the assets of the organization had increased to more than $ 300,000 and consisted of the playhouse and contents, production equipment and furniture, and the adjacent dwelling, which was being used as a facility for the caretakers of the whole property.
More than 5,000 patrons contribute each year to McKeesport Little Theater.“ Numerous performers, young and old, have gone on from the MLT stage to careers or lifestyles in the theater, which is an attestation and verification of the attainment of McKeesport Little Theater’ s goals,” says Gerber.
The theater is run entirely by volunteers. Money is raised through subscriptions, memberships and ticket sales. The group also accepts donations and solicits advertising for
the playbills. They are currently looking for corporate sponsors for the upcoming season.
McKeesport Little Theater’ s season consists of four shows per year plus a Juniors program for children in grades five through 12. For the four main stage shows, two are usually plays and the other two musicals. Actors must audition for each show in which they want to perform. Rehearsals are held at the theater. Musicals normally have an 8- to 10-week rehearsal schedule, which includes musical and
