DONATIONS TOTALING $ 17,000 AWARDED BY THE MCKEESPORT HOSPITAL GIFT SHOP
The McKeesport Hospital Junior Committee announced that $ 17,000 in donations were awarded during the McKeesport Hospital Gift Shop’ s Open House on Oct. 8, in honor of the shop’ s 90th anniversary.
The board voted to contribute $ 10,000 to Addiction Medicine / Behavioral Health for its new“ Recovery Garden,” a renovation of the hospital patio into a therapeutic outdoor space featuring upgraded flooring, a walking path, raised garden beds, a pergola with shade, new furniture, sensory installations and improved lighting.
Also approved was $ 7,000 in funding for the Magee-Womens Imaging Department at the hospital. The donation will support out-of-pocket diagnostic breast imaging for uninsured or underinsured patients, provide screening mammograms for those without insurance, and cover transportation to other UPMC Magee locations when necessary. The contribution aims to improve access to essential care for women in the community.
APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR THE 20TH ANNUAL BOB FRYER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The Press Club of Western Pennsylvania is now accepting applications for its 20th annual Bob Fryer Memorial Scholarship($ 5,000) and the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania Scholarship($ 2,500)— both aimed at outstanding undergraduate journalism students pursuing careers in print, broadcasting or multimedia.
Applicants must be sophomores or juniors enrolled in accredited colleges or universities with permanent residence in one of 29 Western Pennsylvania counties. Winners will be honored at the annual Golden Quills Awards Dinner in
Pittsburgh, and scholarship funds will be applied directly to their school accounts.

JOIN THE PCC THIS SEASON!
The Pittsburgh Concert Chorale( PCC) recently announced its 2025 – 2026 season, a lineup of performances that celebrate the richness and diversity of choral music. In December, PCC’ s beloved holiday tradition, Sounds of the Season, returned. Audiences of all ages enjoyed timeless carols, seasonal classics and popular holiday favorites, plus a chance to sing along with the choir for a truly festive experience.
The season continues in March with the Classics concert, featuring Rachmaninoff’ s“ All-Night Vigil” on March 7 and 8. This acclaimed a cappella masterwork draws on centuries-old chants and the spiritual depth of the Russian Orthodox Church, offering audiences a powerful journey through lush harmonies and sacred tradition.
Shifting the tone this spring, PCC will close its season with a high-energy tribute to an unforgettable decade in Music of the‘ 90s, scheduled for May 2 and 3. Expect a playlist packed with hits from Britney, Whitney, boy bands, hip-hop icons, and grunge legends. Fans are encouraged to dress in their best‘ 90s fashion, take selfies at themed stations, and get ready to party like it’ s 1999!
For those passionate about the arts, PCC offers an opportunity to“ become a producer” for the season. Sponsorship levels include options for individuals, families, businesses, and groups of friends.

RED CROSS CALLS FOR VOLUNTEERS
The American Red Cross of Greater Pennsylvania issued an urgent call for volunteers as disaster response demands continue to grow.
With volunteers making up 90 % of its workforce, the organization is seeking help to respond to both local emergencies, like home fires, and largescale disasters such as hurricanes and wildfires.
Key opportunities include serving on Disaster Action Teams to support families after local emergencies, working in local shelters, or traveling nationwide to assist after major disasters.
